MN-Gov: Stick It To Trump By Helping Peggy Flanagan (D) Become MN’s First Native American Lt. Gov

Received this e-mail today from Rep. Tim Walz’s (D. MN) Lt. Governor pick, Minnesota House Rep. Peggy Flanagan (D. MN), on behalf of the Walz-Flanagan ticket:

Friend,

I chose to run for Lieutenant Governor because Tim and I make a great team that brings together the best of Minnesota. We will improve the lives of all Minnesotans by bringing people to the table alongside us to make decisions.

But there’s another reason I’m running — and it was reinforced by President Trump’s recent use of “Pocahontas” as a disgusting racial slur in front of a group of warriors, Navajo World War II Code Talkers, no less.

For far too long, those in positions of power have tried to erase and ignore Native Americans. Maybe that’s why some people don’t have a problem throwing around Native identity as a racial slur. The thing is, I’m proud to be Native — to be here because of the strength, sacrifice and perseverance of my Anishinaabe ancestors and family. And I’m doing my best to teach my daughter our Anishinaabe value of serving for the good of all.

That’s why I’m asking you today: Will you chip in to elect a Lieutenant Governor who is a Native woman, and who will demand respect for every single resident of our great state?

It’s time for new people in office — people who value equity, inclusion and respect above all. People who understand that diversity makes our communities stronger.

Friend, I won’t be able to make it to Lieutenant Governor without your help. Will you contribute to help our campaign?

Miigwech,

Peggy
